Week 10 of the 2023 NFL campaign features a Sunday Night Football matchup between the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders. I’m not sure why we have to keep watching New York teams play primetime games, but when life gives you lemons you have to make lemonade. As such, if we have to sit around watching a couple of clubs that are outside the playoff cut line (New York is 4-4, Las Vegas is 4-5) we might as well make it profitable.
Here is my Same Game Parlay for the festivities, which kick off at 8:20 pm ET on NBC. Also be sure to check out our full Jets vs Raiders predictions.
Raiders ML (-106)
Josh Jacobs to score a touchdown (+100)
Breece Hall to record 80+ rushing yards (+158)
Parlay odds: +1026
Part of the value in a Same Game Parlay, of course, is that all of its components can be correlated if you so choose. That is some of the plan here, as Las Vegas running back Josh Jacobs scoring a touchdown would obviously work well with a Raiders win. At the same time, plays that aren’t correlated drive up the overall payout of the parlay. That is the case with backing New York RB Breece Hall to rack up his fair share of rushing yards. But even if he does, there is no reason why the home team can’t take care of business. Let’s break down each of the legs.
Raiders ML (-106)
Firing Josh McDaniels may prove to be just what the doctor ordered in Las Vegas. Antonio Pierce is now the interim head coach and suddenly the vibes in Sin City have gone from moribund to immaculate. McDaniels clearly has an inability to relate to the modern NFL player, whereas Pierce’s very best quality is doing just that. There is a culture shift in Vegas, and we saw it when the Raiders were smoking cigars in the locker room after demolishing the Giants last weekend. Obviously the Giants stink, but the Raiders will take anything they can get these days. There is no need to apologize for winning, regardless of the circumstances. Meanwhile, the Jets are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Chargers. Los Angeles is better than Las Vegas, but that result is concerning for the simple fact of just how bad New York looked. This offense is horrendous with Zach Wilson under center in replace of Aaron Rodgers. Give me the home team to win a low-scoring contest.
Josh Jacobs to score a touchdown (+100)
The Jets aren’t the only team playing with a backup quarterback. With Jimmy Garoppolo benched, it’s Aidan O’Connell’s offense in Las Vegas. Early returns for the rookie out of Purdue are mediocre at best, but when you win any game 30-6 (as O’Connell did last week against the Giants) you aren’t losing your job no matter how it looks. Anyway, the Raiders aren’t going to ask O’Connell to do too much – especially not against a New York team that is #3 in the NFL in passing defense. The Jets are third to last in rushing defense, so Jacobs should be in line for a big day all around. He has scored 5 touchdowns this season, all of which have come in the last 6 games (including 3 in the last 2).
Breece Hall to record 80+ rushing yards (+158)
The Jets want to hand the ball to Breece Hall, make some simple throws every now and then and play good defense. That’s their recipe for success. There isn’t going to be anything flashy when Wilson is running the offense. Las Vegas is 8th in the league against the pass and second to last against the run, so this is a very favorable matchup for Hall, just like it is for Jacobs. Hall got 16 carries against the Chargers (compared to Dalvin Cook’s 2) even though the Jets trailed for the entire game. The former Iowa State standout should get upwards of 20 on Sunday and that will probably translate into plenty of yards.
