The Colorado Rockies (56-77) meet the Cincinnati Reds (52-78) Saturday in the 2nd game of a 3-game set at Great American Ball Park. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. ET.

Season series: Rockies lead 3-1

The Rockies lost a 3-2 nailbiter in the series opener Friday night. They’ve now lost 3 games in a row and 7 of 9. They have managed just 15 runs over their last 8 road games. Colorado is just 20-45 away from Coors Field this season.

Cincinnati has strung together 4 wins over the last 7 games. The Reds got 4 scoreless innings out of their bullpen Friday and have one of their young aces in the making going Saturday.

Rockies at Reds projected starters

RHP German Marquez vs. LHP Nick Lodolo

Marquez (7-10, 4.97 ERA) makes his 26th start. He has a 1.38 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9 and 7.4 K/9 in 146 2/3 IP.

  • Better on the road: 3.69 ERA, 1.22 WHIP vs. 6.09 ERA, 1.53 WHIP at home
  • Had a rough start June 12, 2021, at GABP: 5 IP, 12 H, 8 ER, 2 BB, 5 K

Lodolo (3-5, 4.30 ERA) makes his 14th start. He has a 1.45 WHIP, 3.9 BB/9 and 11.0 K/9 in 67 IP.

  • Much better at home: 3-2, 2.93 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 11.5 K/9 vs. 0-3, 6.75 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 10.1 K/9 on the road
  • 1.90 ERA in last 4 home starts

Rockies at Reds picks and predictions

Prediction

Reds 4, Rockies 3

Money line

There’s an 86% chance of rain and an 11-mph wind blowing in from center field. So this probably won’t be your typical Rockies-Reds affair. Lodolo has been mostly unhittable at home of late. Can the Reds’ bullpen hold after throwing 4 innings last night, though? To be on the safe side, I’ll take REDS FIRST 5 INNINGS (+105).

Run line/Against the spread

With the weather possibly playing a factor in this one, I’m going to PASS on the RL and look to the total.

Over/Under

This is a pretty enticing number. Marquez is better on the road, and Lodolo has been great at home lately. The wind is blowing in, rainy, 75-degree weather. The Under is 6-0 for the Rockies over their last 6 games. There’s a lot to like about the UNDER 8.5 (-125).
