The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Philadelphia Phillies meet in MLB action from Citizens Bank Park on Friday night.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to snap a five-game losing skid after their 14-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves last time out. Ke’Bryan Hayes has 100 hits and 19 doubles with a .251 batting average as well as 35 RBIs. Ben Gamel also has 38 RBIs while Michael Chavis also has 40 RBIs this season. Bryan Reynolds also has a team-high 20 home runs with 46 RBIs of his own and Jack Suwinski also has 14 homers this season. Bryse Wilson will start this one and is 2-7 with a 5.74 ERA and 52 strikeouts this season.
The Philadelphia Phillies will hope to build on their current four-game win streak after a 4-0 win over Cincinnati in their last game. Nick Castellanos has 129 hits with 26 doubles and 59 RBIs while Kyle Schwarber also has team-highs of 35 home runs and 73 RBIs as well this season. Alec Bohm’s posting a .292 batting average and a team-high 129 hits while Rhys Hoskins has 26 home runs and 63 RBIs so far this season. J.T. Realmuto also has 60 RBIs as well this season. Bailey Falter will start this one and is 1-3 with a 4.40 ERA and 40 strikeouts this season.
Pittsburgh is 23-49 in their last 72 games overall and 40-91 in their last 131 games against a team with a left-handed starter while the over is 2-0-2 in their last 4 games following an off day. Philadelphia is 10-1 in their last 11 games against the NL Central and 4-0 in their last 4 home games while the under is 4-1-1 in their last 6 series-opening games.
I get the case to be made for either side here, but I’m leaning towards the Pirates as crazy as it may sound, mainly because I’m just not seeing Bailey Falter as a -330 kind of pitcher. Bryse Wilson hasn’t been good and neither have the Pirates as a group, but all it really takes is one bounce and despite offloading a lot of talent, there are still pieces there for this Pirates team to battle the rest of the way. Give me the Pirates and the big time plus money.
