The New York Mets and the New York Yankees meet in MLB action from Yankee Stadium on Monday night.

The New York Mets will look to build on their 10-9 back and forth win over the Philadelphia Phillies in Sunday’s series finale. Francisco Lindor has 130 hits along with 21 home runs, 84 RBIs and a .274 batting average while Pete Alonso also has 123 hits, 30 home runs and 102 RBIs. Starling Marte has 125 hits, 23 doubles, 4 triples and 55 RBIs as well while Eduardo Escobar has 21 doubles as well as 3 triples and Brandon Nimmo has also chipped in 5 triples as well this season. Jeff McNeil has 125 hits, 33 doubles, a triple and a .321 batting average as well on the year. Max Scherzer will start here and is 9-2 with a 2.15 ERA and 134 strikeouts this season.

The New York Yankees will try to build some momentum after avoiding a sweep at the hands of the Blue Jays with a 4-2 win in Sunday’s series finale. Aaron Judge leads the Yankees with 46 home runs and 102 RBIs along with 129 hits and a .293 batting average in addition to 20 doubles while Gleyber Torres has 21 doubles and DJ LeMahieu has 18 doubles of his own. Anthony Rizzo also has 19 doubles so far this season, in addition to logging 28 home runs and 68 RBIs. Domingo German will start here and is 1-2 with a 4.45 ERA and 23 strikeouts this season.

The Mets are 21-7 in their last 28 games overall and 35-16 in their last 51 series-opening games while the over is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games against the AL East. The Yankees are 39-18 in their last 57 series-opening games and 4-14 in their last 18 games overall while the under is 9-2-1 in their last 12 games overall.

I get the case to be made either way here as these are still two of the better teams in the majors right now despite the Yankees losing the plot as of late. That being said, I think the better play here is the under. Max Scherzer pitched a lot better than his line would indicate in his last start and I think he brings it here while Domingo German is a nice piece for the Yankees that’s seemed to improve over the course of each start. I’ll side with the under in a first to 3 wins kind of game.
