Cooper Kupp put together one of the best campaigns from a wide receiver in NFL history in 2021, but it wasn’t enough to earn him the highest overall rating in Madden 23. The overall ratings of wide receivers for the next installment of the popular video game were released on Monday and the top wideout on the Los Angeles Rams owns the second-highest overall rating.
Top 10 WRs in Madden NFL 23:
Davante Adams: 99
Cooper Kupp: 98
Tyreek Hill: 97
DeAndre Hopkins: 96
Stefon Diggs: 95
Justin Jefferson: 93
Mike Evans: 92
Terry McLaurin: 91
Keenan Allen: 91
Amari Cooper: 90— Ari Meirov (@MySportsUpdate) July 18, 2022
Many fans of the Rams are likely upset to see that Kupp isn’t a 99 overall, which is the highest overall a player can receive in the game. Davante Adams is the only wide receiver to receive a 99 overall rating upon joining the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason.
I would venture to say that I would have personally made Kupp a 99 overall wide receiver, but I understand him being No. 2 to Adams. Adams has produced more consistently in his career than Kupp, though, injuries have hindered Kupp’s ability to record better numbers in previous years.
Also, Adams is in the same tier — or better —when it comes to route running at the wide receiver position. And you can make the argument that Adams is more versatile and is a better vertical threat in an offense.
The Madden video games have gotten a lot wrong over the years when it comes to certain things. However, there shouldn’t be much backlash for them making Kupp a 98 overall wide receiver in the upcoming game, especially when you consider he was an 86 overall in last year’s game.
Getting a 98 overall rating is nothing to scoff at and there’s a decent chance that Kupp can increase his overall to 99 during the 2022 season. But for the time being, the reigning triple crown wideout will be the second-highest overall player at his respective position in Madden 23.
