The Kansas City Chiefs are only a few weeks from starting training camp ahead of the 2022 NFL season.
The bitter taste of the loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game remains in the minds of many fans, including some of the team’s celebrity supporters. The return of the annual Big Slick KC weekend after two years of being held virtually brought back hosts Paul Rudd, Rob Riggle, David Koechner, and Eric Stonestreet. The opening press conference for the event occurred on Friday morning as the quartet discussed the ongoing mission to raise money for pediatric cancer research at Children’s Mercy Hospital. They also reflected on the Chiefs’ disappointing loss in the AFC title game.
“The Super Bowl was played two weeks before that,” Koechner exclaimed. “It was the Chiefs-Bills game. . . that was the Super Bowl. When a singular game outperforms people’s expectations, and it’s the thing people will remember for years and years and years. No one’s going to talk about whatever that game was that we played in February. They’ll be talking about that Chiefs-Bills game.”
Koechner’s Big Slick KC co-host Eric Stonestreet followed up his comments with an optimistic view on the Chiefs’ future following last season’s disappointment.
“So here’s the great news that I say because Chiefs questions pop up a lot,” said Stonestreet. “It’s a different feeling. It used to be that game we lost, it felt like, well, that was it for a while. We’re here for a long time. Like, we’re not going anywhere with Andy Reid, with Patrick Mahomes, with Brett Veach and the team that they built. We’re going to be in every game that’s meaningful for the foreseeable future. So while that game hurt a lot, reload, baby. We’re ready this year. Let’s do it.”
