The Milwaukee Brewers and the Cincinnati Reds meet Friday in MLB action from Great American Ball Park. Milwaukee is coming off a series versus the Mets. The Brewers split the first pair in that set, then on Thursday in the rubber match Milwaukee fell by a run. As for Cincinnati, they played the Diamondbacks this week. The Reds managed wins in two of three games. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Milwaukee posted a 4-0 shutout loss in the Tuesday opener versus the Mets, but bounced back with a 10-2 win on Wednesday. In the finale, the Brewers had a 4-1 lead at one point but eventually fell 5-4 in a rough defeat. Aaron Ashby went 4.1 frames as starter with four earned on four hits and three walks.
For the starter gig on Friday versus Cincinnati, Milwaukee is sending out Eric Lauer. Over 11 starts this season Lauer is 5-2 with a 3.36 ERA. In 61.2 innings he has 53 hits, 23 earned, 21 walks and 67 Ks.
Over on the Reds’ side, they were able to eke out a win over the Diamondbacks 5-4 in the series opener Monday. Cincinnati followed that up with a 5-3 win on Tuesday. In the Wednesday matchup, the Reds’ luck ran out in a 7-4 defeat.
Hunter Greene will start the game for the Reds on Friday. In his 12 starts so far Greene is 3-7 with a 5.10 ERA. Over 60.0 innings total Greene has 52 hits, 34 earned runs, 26 walks and 79 Ks.
The Brewers are 17-7 in their last 24 versus the NL Central and the over is 9-4-1 in their last 14 versus the NL Central. The over is 7-3 in Milwaukee’s last 10 as a road favorite.
Meanwhile, the Reds are 4-0 in their last four after an off day and 2-5 in their last seven at home. Cincinnati is 2-8 in their last 10 Friday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Reds here. Greene posted a spotty outing versus Boston back on June 1 with four earned on six hits in 3.2 innings. In his two starts since however, Greene has just one earned on three hits and two walks across 12.0 frames. I like Greene to keep it going in this one and he should set up the Reds for a potential win. The Cincinnati bats and bullpen are going to need to help out, though.
