Boston scored their lone run in the second inning Monday, bagging six hits on the way to a 1-0 win. On Tuesday, the Sox scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th and held on for a 6-5 victory. Starter Garrett Whitlock managed 4.0 innings with four earned on six hits.
For the starter gig in the Wednesday game, the Sox will go with Nathan Eovaldi. In his 11 starts this year Eovaldi is 3-2 with a 3.41 ERA. In 63.1 innings he has 59 hits, 24 earned, 10 walks and 67 Ks.
Over on the Angels’ side, they had just three team hits (and an error) in the Monday loss. On Tuesday, LA had eight team hits (and a 5-3 lead in the fifth) in the loss. Jose Suarez put up 5.0 frames in the start with three earned on seven hits and two walks.
As starter for the Wednesday finale, the Angels will go with Reid Detmers. In his nine starts so far Detmers is 2-2 with a 4.20 ERA. Over 45.0 innings Detmers has 31 hits. 21 earned, 14 walks and 31 Ks.
The Sox are 4-1 in their last five in game three of a series and 9-3 in their last 12 as a road favorite. The under is 3-0-1 in Boston’s last four Wednesday games.
Meanwhile, the Angels are 1-4 in their last five in game three of a series and 3-9 in their last 12 as a home underdog. The over is 3-1-1 in LA’s last five Wednesday games.
PICK: I’m probably sticking with Boston here. Eovaldi has been on a nice run of starts lately: in his hast trio he’s 2-0 with four earned in 21.2 innings on 15 hits and three walks. One of those starts was a complete-game victory. Eovaldi should be able to notch another quality start in this one, and if the Boston bullpen can finish it off the Sox should be just fine win-wise.
