As we’re entering the summer months, it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming college football season. The Sports Betting oddsmakers have set the odds for the National Championship.
Let’s take a look at some of the favorites to win the National Championship. We’ll give you our CFP Betting picks to make the playoffs and give you some reasoning on why the others won’t make college football’s final four.
Who Will Make the College Football Playoffs This Season? | NCAAF Betting
On the Outside Looking In
- Texas Longhorns – 60/1
Steve Sarkisian still has some work to do in Austin. He did a great job raiding the transfer portal. He has made a lot of upgrades on the offensive side of the ball, including getting 5-star quarterback Quinn Ewers.
However, the Longhorns’ defense could be a big issue. Many feel that they could win the Big 12 since Lincoln Riley has left. They have a tough test in Week 2 against Alabama.
If they win this, Texas could see a big rise in the rankings. We just don’t see this team being good enough to make it into the playoffs.
- Clemson Tigers – 14/1
Yes, we know that the ACC isn’t very strong and that Clemson should be the most talented team in this conference. Miami has made some big improvements, but we’re not sure that they’re quite ready to overtake Clemson.
But the main reason that we think Clemson won’t make the playoffs is because they lost their offensive and defensive coordinators from last season. We’re not sure how this will affect things, but we just don’t think that the Tigers are ready to leap back into the playoff picture just yet.
Our Potential Playoff Field
- Ohio State Buckeyes – 9/2
The Ohio State Buckeyes had the nation’s top offense last season. Even though they lost some key wide receivers, they still have a stellar group of pass catchers for Heisman-hopeful quarterback CJ Stroud.
Last season’s problems for the Buckeyes stemmed from their lack of defense. Ryan Day went out and hired Jim Knowles from Oklahoma State to fix their defense. Knowles fixed the traditionally poor Cowboys defense, and Day is hoping that he can do that for the Buckeyes.
We think they win the Big 10 and head to the playoffs.
- USC Trojans – 25/1
Lincoln Riley has brought a ton of offensive talent to Los Angeles with him. The offensive guru is looking forward to exploiting a weak Pac 12. We know that there will be question marks on the defensive side of the ball, but we think that the offense will carry them.
We don’t see anyone beating USC in the conference, so their weak schedule will be their ticket to the playoffs.
- Georgia Bulldogs – 13/4
The defending champs had 15 players drafted in the 2022 NFL Draft. However, Georgia doesn’t rebuild; they just reload. Georgia has one of the top recruiting classes in the country and had talented players on their roster last season that couldn’t crack the starting lineup.
Combine all of their talent with their relatively easy SEC schedule, and we see Georgia making another run at the title.
- Alabama Crimson Tide – 2/1
Nick Saban isn’t happy that his team lost to Georgia in the title game last season. He hates to lose, and he’ll work even harder to make sure that Alabama gets back to the playoffs again.
Bryce Young will be back and will be surrounded by a talented cast.
The Tide will be back in the playoffs again this season.
