The Milwaukee Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals meet in an NL Central division matchup in MLB action from Busch Stadium on Saturday.
The Milwaukee Brewers will look to rebound from a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Cardinals in Friday’s matchup. Willy Adames, Hunter Renfroe and Rowdy Tellez each have a team-high 9 home runs with Tellez logging team-highs of 11 doubles and 33 RBIs while Renfroe has a .266 batting average and Adames has 24 RBIs. Christian Yelich also has a team-high 40 hits with 9 doubles and 21 RBIs this season. Adrian Houser will start here and is 3-4 with a 2.98 ERA and 35 strikeouts this season.
The St. Louis Cardinals will try to build on Friday’s win and push ahead in the series to make up ground for the division lead. Nolan Arenado leads the Cards with 9 home runs along with 32 RBIs, 13 doubles, 45 hits and a .278 batting average while Tommy Edman has a .281 batting average and 47 hits with 3 triples, 4 home runs and 21 RBIs. Dylan Carlson has 9 doubles, Paul Goldschmidt has a team-high 57 hits, 16 doubles and a. 345 batting average with 9 home runs and a team-high 36 RBIs while Tyler O’Neill has 20 RBIs as well up to this point in the year. Matthew Libertatore will start here and is 0-0 with a 7.71 ERA and 3 strikeouts this season.
Milwaukee is 6-2 in their last 8 games overall and 20-9 in their last 29 games as a favorite while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 road games against a left-handed starter. St. Louis is 22-8 in their last 30 division games and 8-3 in their last 11 Saturday games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a right-handed starter.
I get the reasoning for backing either side here, but I’m not overly sold on Matthew Liberatore after one start and I need to see more of a sample size before backing him in a high-profile matchup like this one against the division-leading Brewers. Milwaukee’s quietly played some of the best ball in the majors so far this year and I think we’re getting them at a bit of a discount here. I’m not the biggest Houser fan, but I like the value we have with the Brewers in this one.
