The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Chicago Cubs meet in MLB action from Wrigley Field on Thursday night.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will try to snap a six-game losing skid after a 5-3 loss to the Dodgers in their last game. Daulton Varsho’s got 32 hits, 6 home runs and 16 RBIs this season. Christian Walker has a team-high 9 home runs and 18 RBIs and Ketel Marte has a team-high 13 doubles while David Peralta has 5 doubles and Pavin Smith’s also got 26 hits and has a .228 batting average on the year. Zac Gallen will get the start for Arizona in this one and is 2-0 with a 1.05 ERA and 35 strikeouts this season.
The Chicago Cubs will look to bounce back after failing to complete the sweep on Wednesday with a 3-2 loss to the Pirates. Willson Contreras leads the Cubs with 31 hits and a .282 batting average while Patrick Wisdom has a team-high of 6 home runs with 17 RBIs and 8 doubles on the year. Seiya Suzuki also has 18 RBIs and 10 doubles chipped in for the Cubbies up to this point in the year. Marcus Stroman will start here and is 1-3 with a 5.13 ERA and 22 strikeouts this season.
Arizona is 0-6 in their last 6 games overall and 1-5 in their last 6 road games while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 road games. Chicago is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall and 3-11 in their last 14 home games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall.
I can understand why one would give the Cubs a look being at home, but I’ve learned from the Cubs that the success isn’t necessarily sustainable and while Marcus Stroman’s had his moments, he hasn’t pitched in over two weeks. Zac Gallen’s arguably Arizona’s staff ace here and anytime he pitches, the Diamondbacks are in the best chance to win baseball games with their pitching. Give me the Diamondbacks to start the series with a win here.
