Former Utah safety Kamo'i Latu, who entered the transfer portal last week, announced his commitment to Wisconsin on Friday. Latu had been on campus visiting this week.

Latu played in all 14 games for Utah last season and recorded 19 tackles with three pass breakups. He earned Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Week honors for his performance against USC last October, when he notched a career-high 10 tackles. Latu was a high school teammate of Wisconsin outside linebacker Nick Herbig at Saint Louis School in Hawaii.

Latu's addition comes at a critical position for the Badgers. Wisconsin defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard called the lack of safety depth during spring practice “a huge concern” and acknowledged that pursuing a player in the transfer portal was a legitimate possibility, noting that experience would be key.
