The Arizona Diamondbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals meet in MLB action from Busch Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to pick up another upset win after a 6-2 win over the Cardinals in Friday’s matchup. Seth Beer leads the D-Backs with 15 hits along with 8 RBIs while Daulton Varsho’s also got 15 hits a team-high 4 home runs and 10 RBIs this season. Christian Walker also has 4 home runs and Ketel Marte has a team-high 6 doubles while David Peralta has 5 doubles and Pavin Smith’s also got 15 hits and has a .273 batting average on the year. Merrill Kelly will start here and is 1-1 with a 1.69 ERA and 22 strikeouts this season.
The St. Louis Cardinals will look to bounce back after a frustrating performance on Friday. Nolan Arenado leads the Cards with 5 home runs, 17 RBIs, 7 doubles, 27 hits and a .375 batting average while Tommy Edman has a .318 batting average and 21 hits with a triple, 3 home runs and 11 RBIs. Paul Goldschmidt and Harrison Bader each have 4 doubles as well up to this point in the year. Miles Mikolas will start here and is 1-0 with a 1.21 ERA and 18 strikeouts on the year.
Arizona is 1-8 in Kelly’s last 9 starts against a team with a winning record and 0-4 in Kelly’s last 4 starts following a quality start in his last appearance while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 Saturday games. St. Louis is 4-1 in their last 5 games as a home favorite and 13-6 in their last 19 home games while the over is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games as a home favorite.
I get the case to be made for either side in this one, as Merrill Kelly gives the Diamondbacks a solid chance at upsetting any opponent while Mikolas has really been delivering as of late. Instead, I’m going to side with the under here as I think that Kelly vs. Mikolas is setting up to be a big time pitcher’s duel here and I think this one could be 3-2 whichever way it ends up going. Give me the under here.
