For a few weeks now, the college basketball community has been wondering who new Duke head coach Jon Scheyer would choose to fill the last vacant seat on his bench. A source tells 247Sports that Kentucky's Jai Lucas is the hire and will be joining the Blue Devils as an assistant coach, a move that will send a rattle throughout the college hoops landscape.

In swiping the 33-year-old Lucas from Lexington, Scheyer lands one of the top recruiters in the business — and strikes a blow to a chief competitor. Lucas also represents the first assistant coach the Blue Devils have hired outside the "Duke family" since the 1990s.

Lucas joins associate head coach Chris Carrawell and newly-minted assistant coach Amile Jefferson to make up Duke’s three assistants. Scheyer also recently added former Elon head coach Mike Schrage as the Special Assistant to the Head Coach. Former Duke assistant Nolan Smith left earlier this month to join Kenny Payne's staff at Louisville.
