The Carolina Hurricanes and Arizona Coyotes meet Monday in NHL action at the Gila River Arena. The Carolina Hurricanes need a win after losing five of their last eight games. The Arizona Coyotes look to snap a six-game losing streak.
The Carolina Hurricanes are averaging 3.3 goals per game and are scoring on 22.3 percent of their power play opportunities. Sebastian Aho leads Carolina with 35 goals, Teuvo Teravainen has 41 assists and Andrei Svechnikov has 238 shots on goal. Defensively, the Carolina Hurricanes are allowing 2.4 goals per game and are killing 88.6 percent of their opponent’s power plays. Frederick Anderson has allowed 111 goals on 1,431 shots faced, and Antti Raanta has allowed 53 goals on 610 goals.
The Arizona Coyotes are averaging 2.4 goals per game and are scoring on 14.1 percent of their power play opportunities. Clayton Keller leads Arizona with 28 goals, Phil Kessel has 38 assists and Jakob Chychrun has 141 shots on goal. Defensively, the Arizona Coyotes are allowing 3.8 goals per game and are killing 73 percent of their opponent’s power plays. Carter Hutton has given up 15 goals on 58 shots faced, and Karel Vejmelka has given up 153 goals on 1,506 shots.
The Hurricanes are 3-7 in their last 10 road games and 21-8 in their last 29 games playing on 1 days rest. The Coyotes are 16-35 in their last 51 home games and 22-53 in their last 75 overall. The over is 5-1 in Hurricanes last 6 road games. The over is 4-0-1 in Coyotes last 5 overall. The Hurricanes are 7-2 in the last 9 meetings in Arizona and 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.
The Arizona Coyotes are somewhat attractive in the big underdog role at home, but they look like a team that’s ready for the season to end, and home ice hasn’t meant much success anyway. The Carolina Hurricanes have had recent issues on the road and are currently struggling overall, but they’re clearly the better team here, and this game feels like it’s exactly what the doctor ordered. I have to side with the Canes, and I’ll take the PL for max betting value.
