The Seattle Mariners roll into the 2022 season with some rather moderate odds to win the World Series.
The M’s picked up 90 victories despite the fact they had a minus-51 run differential. For a team to be 18 games over .500 with that kind of run differential is just one of those crazy baseball stats. It won’t happen again.
The team grabbed some big-time offensive help with All-Stars Eugenio Suarez and Jesse Winker from the Cincinnati Reds for a handful of younger players and cash considerations. After coming within a whisker of the playoffs in 2021, the M’s are going for it in 2022.

Seattle has some questions in the lineup, as Ty France, Jarred Kelenic, Tom Murphy and Abraham Toro are expected to be regular fixtures in the lineup in the early going. While Mitch Haniger, Suarez and Winker are a good start, there are still a lot of young, unproven guys in this offensive attack. Evan White and Kyle Lewis should work their ways back from surgery at some point to add some pop and experience. Top prospect OF Julio Rodriguez has also made the team and could provide a spark.
However, if Suarez and Winker do what they’ve done in the past, while a handful of the younger players outproduce projections, this is going to be finally be a playoff team for the first time since 2001. But is this a World Series roster? Not even close.
At +3000, Seattle has an implied probability of winning the World Series of 3.23% or 30/1 fractional odds.
The Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates have the longest odds at +30000.
Selecting the MARINERS (+3000) to win the World Series would pay off handsomely if it were to hit, but this team simply needs to make the playoffs first. That’s not even a given in a stacked AL West with the defending American League champ Houston Astros and emerging Los Angeles Angels.
