The New York Islanders and the New Jersey Devils meet in NHL action from the Prudential Center on Sunday.
The New York Islanders will look to build on their current three-game win streak after a 3-0 win over the New York Rangers in their last game. Brock Nelson leads the Islanders in scoring with 49 points including a team-high 32 goals while Mathew Barzal has 48 points with 14 goals and a team-high 34 assists. Anders Lee has 40 points with 25 goals and Noah Dobson’s got 38 points with 28 assists. Ilya Sorokin has gone 22-14-7 with a 2.30 GAA and a .927 save percentage this season.
The New Jersey Devils will look to bounce back from a 7-6 OT loss at the hands of the Florida Panthers in their last game. Jesper Bratt leads the Devils in scoring with 65 points including 22 goals and a team-high 43 assists while Damon Severson has 38 points with 10 goals and 28 assists. Dawson Mercer has 38 points with 16 goals and 22 assists and Nico Hischier has 49 points with 18 goals and 31 assists this season. Jack Hughes also has 56 points with a team-high 26 goals and 30 assists this season.
New York is 10-4 in their last 14 games overall and 37-15 in their last 52 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 8-1 in their last 9 games as a road favorite. New Jersey is 6-1 in their last 7 home games and 17-38 in their last 55 games overall while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 division games.
I get the allure of a home dog in certain spots, but the Devils proved once again on Saturday why they can’t be trusted as this Devils team just keeps finding new ways to lose hockey games, coughing up a 6-2 lead in the 3rd period. New York’s playoff hopes are slim, but they’re still alive and the Rangers found out how frustrating this Islanders team can be when they’re at their best. Give me the Islanders to win this game in regulation.
