A common question asked of prospects during their media availability at the NFL Scouting Combine is whether they have a favorite NFL player at the specific position they play. Perhaps it’s a player they idolize or study or just someone who played for their favorite team growing up.

At the edge rusher position, you’ll hear a lot of J.J. Watt and T.J. Watt. You’ll get some players who model their game after Joey Bosa and Maxx Crosby. Occasionally you’ll hear some throwbacks to guys like Derrick Thomas, Reggie White and Michael Strahan. For Michigan edge rusher David Ojabo, he had a different answer and one that might surprise some Kansas City Chiefs fans.

“Frank Clark,” Ojabo said. “That’s my guy, man.”

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Ojabo and Clark both were Michigan Wolverines, they must know each other and it must be some sort of connection there. Asked whether he has a relationship with Clark, Ojabo said they’ve talked before and are in contact from time to time, but that they weren’t particularly close.

Instead, Ojabo’s intrigue surrounding Clark comes from the way he plays the game.

“I’ve watched a lot of Frank Clark,” Ojabo said. “Just the way he moves, unorthodox, sneaky power, very speedy. I try to model some of the things and just the way I move.”

A polarizing figure in Kansas City because of his massive contract, I’m not sure many would agree with Ojabo’s choice, but it’s an interesting take from one of the most explosive edge rushers at the combine this year. I certainly can see some similarities to their game, especially when Clark was with Seattle and rushing more from a two-point stance.

Clark was also one of the more athletic players at the position at the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine, perhaps Ojabo can follow suit there too. Who knows, there’s always a chance that he could end up playing with Clark in Kansas City too.
