Top 2021 Stakes Races to Bet On Saturday, Dec. 11th

Author:

After a terrific Saturday at Aqueduct Racetrack, it makes sense why there’s just two graded races happening this weekend. The Grade 3 Mr. Prospector should be a competitive affair. Right now, only Bob Baffert has confirmed he will enter horses in the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity. Also on Saturday are the My Charmer Stakes at Turfway Park and the Garland of Roses at Aqueduct.

Top Stakes Races for the Week

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 11

Turfway Park

  • My Charmer Stakes – 1 1/6 miles polytrack – $100,000

Horseplayers should expect a full field for the My Charmer Stakes on Saturday. Among the runners, Brad Cox’s Adventuring figures to offer near favorite’s odds. The Godolphin owned filly finished third behind Navratilova and Crazy Beautiful in her last, the Grade 3 Valley View. George Weaver trained So Darn Hot finished second in the Grade 3 Turn Back the Alarm in her last. The Weaver runner figures to go off no worse than third in this.

Aqueduct Racetrack

  • Garland of Roses – 6 furlongs dirt – $100,000

In last year’s Garland of Roses, Honor Way, Honey I’m Good, and Pacific Gale finished first, second, and third. Honor Way ran in the Go For Wand on Dec. 4. So she won’t defend her Garland title. But both Honey I’m Good and Pacific Gale remain active. So expect at least one of the two to enter.

Gulfstream Park

  • Grade 3 Mr. Prospector Stakes – 7 furlongs dirt – $100,000

So far, just four runners will go in the Mr. Prospector. Wind of Change and Officiating, both from the Saffie Joseph barn, Poppy’s Pride, trained by Michael Yates, Dale Romans trained Dennis’ Moment, and Endorsed from the Mike Maker barn. Expect more horses to enter when the draw happens on Thursday. Of the four who are confirmed, Poppy’s Pride is the most intriguing preposition. The Yates trainee hasn’t raced since finishing fifth in the Swale Stakes this past January.

Los Alamitos TB

  • Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity – 1 1/16 miles dirt – $300,000

Trainer Bob Baffert likes to use the Los Alamitos Futurity to ready his 2-year-olds for Kentucky Derby prep races. This year, Baffert figures to saddle five runners in the Los Al Futurity: Barossa, Rhetoric, Enbarr, Pinehurst, and Messier. Pinehurst won the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity and Messier won the Grade 3 Bob Hope. Rhetoric finished second to Forbidden Kingdom in his first race. Enbarr won the Capote Stakes after finishing second to Pinehurst in his maiden try while Barossa finished ninth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.
