Conference expansion appears to be officially beginning in the Big 12 Conference. The University of Cincinnati has officially submitted its application to join the Big 12, according to a report from The Enquirer.

The Big 12 is expected to announce on Friday that it is adding Cincinnati to the league, according to Keith Jenkins of The Enquirer. Cincinnati must give the American Athletic Conference a 27-month notice to leave the league and will have a $10 million exit fee from the AAC, according to Jenkins.

Cincinnati is one of four schools that is planning on coming into the Big 12 in the near future. Reports have previously surfaced that BYU, Houston and UCF will be coming to the league along with Cincinnati. Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel reported on Monday that Big 12 presidents held an informal meeting to review impending applications for the four schools to join the league and a formal vote was planned to happen later in the week.
