New Face in Charge
Ryan Walters is in as the new head coach of the Boilermakers. He came over from Illinois after an 8-6 season for the Boilermakers sent Jeff Brohm to Louisville. The Boilermakers scored 26.6 points per game and threw for 400 passing yards a game.
This team will look to recover from the loss of Aidan O’Connell, Charlie Jones, and Payne Durham. The new offensive coordinator is Graham Harrell, who played at Texas Tech during the past first years. There is no doubt the Boilermakers are going to throw the football.
Hudson Card appears to be the starting quarterback of choice for the Boilermakers. He is a transfer from Texas. T.J. Sheffield will likely be his top target, although Mershawn Rice is a guy to look out for.
Purdue will have a good chunk of its offensive line back, including DJ Johnson. That should give Devin Mockobee a chance to run the football early and often when the Boilermakers choose to. He rushed for just shy of 1,000 yards a season ago.
The defense is looking for a whole new transformation. That is something Walters was able to accomplish during his team as the defensive coordinator at Illinois.
Purdue Boilermakers 2023 Bets to Consider
Here are a few of the most common bets for the Purdue Boilermakers in 2023 to consider:
Week 1 Affair vs. Fresno State: -5.5
NFL Week 1 Odds: Purdue -5.5 -111; Fresno State +5.5 -109
Even the Week 1 affair is not going to be an easy task. The Bulldogs from Fresno are going to come into West Lafayette with plenty of swagger and confidence.
Ryan Walters is going to want to get his squad off to a quick start, but he has some work to do in order to get the talented pieces together. This game shows Purdue on upset watch right from the start. Be careful here, and consider looking into the Fresno State moneyline on the road.
2023 Win Total: 5.5 Wins
This is going to be a hard one to go OVER. We are going with the under here and taking the juice at -145. Purdue won close games over the last two seasons, and now with a new coach and a new quarterback, that does not seem to be in the cards. The Boilermakers get Ohio State and Michigan on their slate, along with Iowa.
Their non-conference is not going to be easy going on the road to two ACC schools in the first three weeks. This seems like an UNDER bet written all over it.
Odds to win Big Ten: +11000
This is going to be a really tough task to repeat as West Divisional champs. A season ago, Purdue went 6-3 in conference play, including winning three in a row to win the West by a single game over Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota.
Purdue then went on to lose in the Big Ten title game to Michigan. Repeating that will be a challenge, with an Iowa team ready to win it, along with an improving Illinois team and Wisconsin, who every year is a conference contender.
Odds to win National Title: +24000
The Purdue Boilermakers are +24000 to win the national title. For those that are not familiar with what that means: Bet $1 for Purdue to win, and if they won the whole thing – that’s $240 winner.
This is not a likely scenario, but even the biggest of Boilermaker fans can dream. These odds are right in the mix with Nebraska and Michigan State and just slightly ahead of Colorado, Tulane, Illinois, and Iowa State.
There you have it. That’s a quick look at the Purdue Boilermakers 2023 Season Betting Guide. We expect a fun year out of the Big Ten Conference. It’s one to keep our eyes on, and we would love to see some great games if you are going to bet on the Big Ten; best of luck!
