The Cincinnati Reds and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet Wednesday in MLB action from Chase Field. This will be the final edition of a three-game set this week. The Reds eked out a victory on Monday in the opener, then on Tuesday Cincinnati kept it up with a wild extra-innings win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Cincinnati came back from a 4-1 deficit on Monday to post a nice 5-4 victory and draw first blood in the series. In the Tuesday game, the Reds had a pitchers’ battle with no score through nine innings. Cincinnati scored five runs in the next three frames in a 5-3 win. Tyler Mahle was great in the start with 9.0 innings, three hits, zero earned, zero walks and 12 Ks.

Wednesday starter for the Reds will be Luis Castillo. In seven starts during 2022 Castillo is 2-4 with a 3.23 ERA. Over 39.0 total innings he has 31 hits, 14 earned runs, 13 walks and 37 Ks.

Over on the Diamondbacks’ side, they had 10 team hits in the Monday loss but couldn’t’ recover after giving up three runs in the fifth. On Tuesday, Arizona had just five hits in the loss. Zach Davies posted 7.0 clean frames as the starter, notching six hits, no walks and seven strikeouts.

The starting pitcher for Wednesday’s game will be Arizona’s Zac Gallen. Over 11 starts Gallen is 4-2 with a 2.95 ERA. In his 58.0 innings Gallen has 19 earned, 46 hits, 16 walks and 55 Ks.

The Reds are 16-36 in their last 52 road games and 3-13 in their last 16 Wednesday games. Cincinnati is 15-38 in their last 53 versus the NL West.

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are 21-52 in their last 73 in game three of a series and the under is 21-8-3 in their last 32 at home. The under is 11-5-1 in Arizona’s last 17 overall.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Reds. You could make a case either way here, though. We should have a pretty good starter matchup if nothing else. Castillo has 18.1 total innings in his last three starts with a combined four earned on 13 hits and eight walks. As for Gallen, he’s got eight earned in 13.1 innings over his last three starts—most of that coming with four earned in 1.2 innings his last time up. I wouldn’t be surprised to see both guys notch quality starts in this one.
