There’s no doubt that the Kansas City Chiefs are going to be in the market to add a receiver in the 2022 NFL draft. But can they afford to take one coming off of injury as early as the first round?

In the latest mock draft from our friends at Draft Wire, Luke Easterling sends USC WR Drake London to the Chiefs late in the first round. They’ve been eye-balling London to Kansas City, even back in September when the season was just getting started.

London (6-5, 210 pounds) struck fire early in the season, boasting size, speed and strong hands at the catch point. His production ballooned in 2021, with 88 catches for 1,084 yards and seven touchdowns through eight games. That’s nearly double the production in a similar span over each of the two seasons prior.

Here is what Easterling had to say about the Chiefs’ selection of London:

“Patrick Mahomes already has a terrifying tandem in Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce, but adding another playmaker to the offense shouldn’t be out of the question. London’s combination of size, length and athleticism would make him the perfect addition to an already dangerous aerial attack.”

Can the Chiefs afford to take this player in the first round, though? During that eighth game against Arizona, London suffered a season-ending ankle fracture. He was on pace to set USC records for receptions and yards in a single season. Really, he was on a collision course to solidify himself as a top-10 draft pick, but the injury now casts some doubt over him heading into NFL draft season. Surely, he’ll need to be given the all-clear during combine medical checks.
