Jacksonville Jaguars fans feared the worst on Monday when quarterback Trevor Lawrence went down with an ankle injury. Those fears were all but erased with the recent update on Lawrence’s injury status.

The Jaguars are now planning to start Lawrence during the team’s Week 14 matchup Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Lawrence, who has never missed a game due to injury since high school, will be less than a week removed from his ankle injury.

Lawrence suffered a scary-looking injury Monday after Jaguars right tackle Walker Little accidentally stepped on the quarterback’s ankle in Jacksonville’s 34-31 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals (video here). The entire crowd went silent as Lawrence hobbled off the field at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.

The image of Lawrence being helped up by two men in the stadium tunnel felt like an ominous sign regarding the severity of the injury. But with Lawrence now slated to start — barring any setbacks — the Jaguars appear to have avoided any serious injuries for their franchise QB.

Previous reports indicated that Lawrence would have to “prove a lot” in order for him to immediately start following the injury. Lawrence’s progress likely satisfied the team’s trainers enough for them to even consider clearing the 24-year-old to take the field.

The Jaguars fell to 8-4 after their Monday loss to the Bengals. Both the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts sit just one game back of first in the AFC South entering Sunday’s contests.
