Like the rest of us, former NFL referee Terry McAulay was baffled by the amount of times Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor got away with false start infractions on Thursday night against the Detroit Lions.

Detroit managed to upset the defending Super Bowl champions 21-20, but rest assured, fans aren’t going to forget about Taylor’s many blatant and obvious false start penalties that went uncalled throughout the contest.

McAulay serves as a rules analyst for NBC. During the broadcast, he explained that Taylor’s helmet needed “to break the waistline of the center.” McAulay broke down Taylor’s alignment, however, and noted that he “wasn’t remotely close”:

The Lions certainly aren’t strangers to losing games on horrific officiating mistakes, but fortunately, they managed to survive the plethora of miscues by the officials on Thursday night.

Not only did Thursday mark Detroit’s first Week 1 win since 2017, but it also ended the Chiefs’ streak of consecutive Week 1 wins at eight. KC’s last Week 1 loss came to the Tennessee Titans back in 2014.
