As we head into the final 4 races of the 2023 WRC season, we have a very good battle going on at the top of the driver standings. It could actually be tighter still if Sebastian Ogier had decided to race the entire season, but while he is racing on a part-time basis this season, he is having an impact on the championship battle, stealing valuable points when he does decide to race. He will not be winning it all again this year, but there are realistically still 3 drivers who could take the championship this season. We will talk about all 3 of those guys in a moment, as well as one more who has something of an outside shot. This weekend will see the drivers in Greece for what is a crucial rally, so let’s now look at the major players to consider in your WRC Rally betting odds.

Kalle Rovanpera

It looked for a moment as though Rovanpera was going to run away with this thing, winning twice and finishing no worse than 4th in the opening 8 races of the season. That form allowed him to build a nice lead at the top, but being forced to retire in Finland, and picking up zero points in the process, has opened the door somewhat for the drivers trying to run him down in the final races of the season. The Finland Rally had to hurt given that it was in his home nation, but Rovanpera cannot dwell on that as he looks to secure his 2nd straight title. He had a poor showing in Greece last season, but he won there the year prior.

Elfyn Evans

The Welshman made a big move in Finland, taking advantage of Rovanpera’s woes to win that rally and add 30 points to his overall total. That means that he is now just 25 points off the pace and well in the hunt for his first WRC Championship crown. Given that this is somewhat uncharted territory, though, it is going to be interesting to see how he handles the pressure of a championship battle in the final few weeks. He has finished 2nd overall twice in the past, though, so maybe he can make a serious run, although he will need to do better this time around after failing to finish in Greece last season.

Thierry Neuville

Neuville has been one of the most consistent drivers in the WRC for over a decade, but a championship has eluded him to this point. Over the past 7 years, he has never finished worse than 4th overall and has no less than 4 2nd place championship finishes during that stretch. He is almost certainly going to keep that solid streak alive, but can he go one better and win it all? Neuville is 36 points out of the lead, so a lot needs to go right in the final 3 races. He won in Greece in 2022 and a repeat of that would make things very interesting indeed.

Ott Tanak

I think it’s fair to suggest that Tanak saw his dreams of a 2nd WRC Championship come to an end in Finland last time out. He failed to finish that race, and while he didn’t lose any ground to the leader, he is still 66 points back, which, at this stage of the proceedings, is a bridge too far. He can, though, still have an impact on how things play out and he has finished 2nd in his last 2 races in Greece.
