Well good morning, Pickswise Nation! The day is finally here and the 2023 NFL regular season has arrived. It’s Lions vs Chiefs tonight and there’s also MLB, college football and tennis action, so let’s get straight to making your next bet better.

About Last Night

Cardinals take down the Braves again
The Braves still have the best record in baseball, but they have now lost 3 straight games after following a 10-6 loss to the Cardinals on Tuesday with an 11-6 defeat last night. The Braves (90-48) are being caught by the Baltimore Orioles (88-51) in the race for the best overall record in the league after the O’s won their 5th straight game by beating the Angels 10-3 to complete a series sweep.

Today’s Slate

NFL Kick-Off is tonight!
Football’s back! The Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs kick off the new season at home to the Detroit Lions at 8:20 pm ET and we have Lions vs Chiefs predictions for the big game.

Six MLB games today
Today’s smaller MLB slate could still provide plenty of action, with MLB Network showing Cardinals vs Braves at 7:20 pm ET and Diamondbacks vs Cubs at 7:40 pm ET.

There’s college football and tennis too
College Football Week 2 gets going tonight and we have NCAAF predictions for Murray State vs Louisville at 7:30 pm ET on the ACC Network. There’s also tennis and our expert Ricky Dimon, who went 2-1 yesterday, has tennis picks for the US Open women’s semi-finals.

Best Bet of the Day

NCAAF: Over 54.5 points in Murray State Racers vs Louisville Cardinals (-110)
7:30 pm ET, ACCN

Louisville should be able to score freely in this game by dominating up front and star running back Jawhar Jordan should get far more than the measly 7 carries he had last week. Louisville is also effective through the air with Jack Plummer, who went for 247 yards and 3 touchdowns against Georgia Tech. Louisville may not shut down the Racers completely, and f we can get 10 to 14 points out of Murray State, Louisville can probably do the rest to hit the over.

Stat of the Day

The Lions’ last 11 season openers went over the total.

Quote of the Day

“It was a hell of a bonus just getting told that. So we’re obviously real excited about it.”

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is delighted that his star defensive end Nick Bosa has finally signed a new contract.
