The Miami Marlins and the Atlanta Braves meet Friday in MLB action from SunTrust Park. Miami played a pair of games versus the Rays this week, losing both outings. As for the Braves, they just finished up a series versus the Phillies. After wins in two of the first three games, on Thursday Atlanta lost by three runs. Miami didn’t have much luck with the Rays this week. The Marlins were beaten in a shutout 4-0 on Tuesday. Game two was closer but still a loss 5-4. In that one, Miami gave up all five runs in the fifth inning and couldn’t complete the comeback.

For the starter job in the Friday matchup, the Marlins are going with Trevor Rogers. Across his eight starts this year Rogers is 2-5 with a 5.20 ERA. In 36.1 innings of work he’s got 40 hits, 21 earned runs, 15 walks and 34 Ks.

Over on the Braves’ side, they lost to the Phillies 7-3 on Monday. The next two games were wins 6-5 and 8-4, however. In the Thursday game, Atlanta had five team hits in a 4-1 loss. Starter Kyle Wright lasted 6.2 innings with three earned on three hits and two walks.

As the starting pitcher for the Friday game, the Braves will go with Ian Anderson. This year in eight starts Anderson is 3-3 with a 4.07 ERA. In 42.0 total innings he’s got 37 hits, 19 earned, 20 walks and 31 Ks.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Marlins. Rogers needs to have a bounce-back start here, though. In his last outing Rogers managed 4.0 innings with five earned on eight hits and two walks. In the two starts prior to that however, Rogers had 10.1 innings with just one earned on 10 hits and two walks combined. Provided he can get back to form—and provided the Marlins offense can plate a few—I think Miami has a decent shot in this one.
