The match began with Canada taking an early lead as Nathan MacKinnon scored at 4:48 of the first period. The United States responded with goals from Brady Tkachuk and Jake Sanderson, securing a 2-1 advantage. However, Sam Bennett equalized for Canada late in the second period, setting the stage for the overtime showdown.
