Colorado changed its goaltending tandem by trading Justus Annunen and a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Nashville Predators for Scott Wedgewood on Saturday.
Annunen’s inconsistency — 6-4 in nine starts with a goals-against average of 3.23 and a save percentage of .872 — led the team to make a change.
Wedgewood, 32, was drafted by the New Jersey Devils (84th overall) in 2010. He played four games for the Devils in 2015-16, spent the 2017-18 season with the Arizona Coyotes, and was back in New Jersey for the 2020-21 season and part of the 2021-22 season. He ended up back in Arizona for part of the 2021-22 season, then was traded to the Dallas Stars for a conditional pick in the 2023 NHL Draft on March 20, 2022. He signed with the Preds as a free agent this past offseason.

“Honestly, you know, funny enough, I’ve kind of envisioned playing here over time,” Wedgewood said. “We talked about teams where you want to be and stuff, and, I’ve been fortunate with the time in Dallas, Arizona, Nashville. now here, I mean, I’m hitting some good cities. Can’t forget Jersey where I was drafted.”
The Brampton, Ontario native is familiar with the Avalanche having played against them over the years, and is excited to be part of a “Cup contender” team. He said his goal is to help establish consistency in the goaltending department but brings his skills.
“I’ve been kind of known as a room guy. I think I can implement that. It’s been one of those things as a backup goalie for the better part of my career, you got to find a way to stay in the league somehow,” Wedgewood said. “Trying to mesh top to bottom the room, high contracts, low contracts, old, young. We’re a team, and we can’t win without everyone, regardless of the night. You got guys that can do more any given night. But I think if you can blend it, make it a little bit more of a just like a group project — kind of the best way to put it, it’s a lot more fun.”
Wedgewood confirmed he will be the backup for Alexandar Georgiev against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night.
