Edmonton Oilers vs. Vancouver Canucks

Wednesday, May 08, 2024 – 10:00 PM ET at Rogers Arena

Key Facts

  • Edmonton averaged 3.56 goals per game (4th) during the regular season.
  • Edmonton has averaged 4.40 goals per game (2nd of 16) in the postseason.
  • Vancouver has averaged 2.17 goals per game (13th of 16) in the postseason.

Oilers Crown Kings

Thanks to a three-goal outburst in the second period of their Game 5 meeting with the gritty LA Kings, the Oilers secured a 4-3-win culminating in a 4-1 Round 1 series victory, punching Edmonton’s ticket to the next round where they will take on the mighty Vancouver Canucks.

Oilers phenom, Leon Draisaitl, notched two of those second-period tallies and wound up with 5 goals, and 5 assists, for 10 points in the five playoff games against the Kings. Special teams told the tale as the Oilers were 9-of-20 on the power play and outscored LA, 22-13, over their five postseason contests.

The Pick

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room before we begin. The Canucks swept the regular season series with the Oilers, 4-0, including a 3-1 victory in their last meeting on April 13th.

However, the first two games of the Oilers’ regular season began with back-to-back losses to the Canucks, which was a sign of things to come in the early part of the campaign. Edmonton struggled mightily manifesting in a 2-9-1 start before releasing starting goalie Jack Campbell and drastically turning things around, ending the season in second place in the Pacific Division with 104 points.

The Oilers last took the ice on May 1st, giving the team plenty of time to lick their wounds and prepare for a team that has dominated them. Yet, it should be noted the Oilers’ offense is on fire, averaging 4.40 goals per game in the playoffs against a paltry 2.17 goals per game for Vancouver.

Watch the Oilers get revenge on the road and claim Game 1 in what should be an outstanding series.
