While quarterback Spencer Rattler never quite lived up to the hype he had coming out of high school, the South Carolina Gamecocks star has plenty of fans in the NFL. As Rattler goes through the pre-draft process, there is an opportunity to really improve his stock before draft day.

Rattler went to the Reese’s Senior Bowl in Alabama and put on an impressive performance, drawing high marks for his passing and leaving a positive impression in face-to-face interviews with NFL teams. While he still has his work cut out for hm to really move up draft boards, there already appears to be a solid draft range for Rattler ahead of the NFL Scouting Combine.

  • Spencer Rattler stats 2023: 3,186 passing yards, 19-8 TD-INT, 68.9% completion rate, 147.7 QB rating, 8.0 yards per attempt, 66.0 ESPN QBR (45th)

According to NFL scouts and executives who spoke with ESPN’s Jeff Legwold, Rattler could be drafted as high as the bottom of Round 3 or near the top of Round 4 in the 2024 NFL Draft.

“There are some things, release, footwork, if he’ll put in the work, can improve”

However, Rattler’s floor as a draft prospect is considerably lower. Ahead of the NFL Combine, scouts who were the lowest on Rattler suggested the former Oklahoma and South Carolina signal-caller could slide to the bottom of Round 6 and potentially even be available when Round 7 begins.

  • Spencer Rattler career stats: 10,807 passing yards, 77 passing touchdowns, 152.2 QB rating, 8.2 yards per attempt, 68.5% completion rate, 32 interceptions

One critical part of the process for Rattler will be interviews with teams at the NFL Combine. He’s faced plenty of criticism throughout his collegiate career for immaturity and some questionable decision-making. With NFL teams primarily familiar with the personality they saw on Netflix in the QB1 series, there will be questions about how much Rattler has matured a few years later.

While there is a fairly wide draft range for the Gamecocks’ quarterback, most expect he’ll likely be picked with a late fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. While it wouldn’t be the best outcome, making it into the NFL as a fourth-round pick should come with reasonable expectations for Rattler and may land him in a positive situation to develop and learn in before he sees the field.
