Virginia Cavaliers players gathering around on field after Perris Jones' injury.

Virginia Cavaliers running back Perris Jones was carted off during Thursday’s game against Louisville after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit late in the third quarter.

The injury happened on a 2nd-and-27 play late in the third quarter. Jones caught a short pass from from Anthony Colandrea and took a hard hit to the head as multiple Cardinals defenders attempted to tackle him.

The ball came loose on the hit, and Cavaliers wide receiver Malik Washington took it to the end zone for six. Despite the touchdown, there was little celebration as immediate concern fell on Jones’ condition.

Jones was carted off and taken to a hospital. There was no immediate update on his condition.

Let’s hope that Jones is alright and makes a quick recovery. The football world is thinking of him and the Cavaliers.
