Jonathan Smith making gesture on sidelines

Oregon State football coach Jonathan Smith is really sorry for the disgusting gesture he made on the sidelines in their last game.

Smith issued an apology for a “milking” gesture he made near the end of the Beavers win over Utah last week. Broadcast cameras caught Smith grabbing his nipples to communicate that he wanted his team to milk the clock in the final moments of the 21-7 win over the Utes.

“Not just looking at just our players on tape, looking at myself on tape in regards to how we signal plays at the end,” Smith said on Monday. “Communicate. Gotta do things better there. For those I offended with that, I apologize. I won’t be using that signal again.”

“I think he may have been saying, ‘OK milk the clock. You gotta milk it.’ Yeah, that’s what that is,” Fox Sports broadcaster Tim Brando said.

Oregon State jumped out to a 21-0 lead and maintained that shutout until the final frame where Utah eventually scored on a 41-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 14 points. Oregon State’s defense made a stop late in the game, giving the team’s offense the ball back with less than three minutes remaining.

In the meantime, Smith’s name has been linked to the head coaching vacancy at Michigan State.

The win over Utah was Oregon State’s fourth of the season. The Beavers sit in fifth place in the Pac-12 Conference.

Coming up, Oregon State will next travel to Berkeley, California, for a matchup against the California Golden Bears.
