As previously noted, some football fans believe that Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive coordinator Matt Canada is using a burner account on X (formerly known as Twitter) to defend himself against fed up fans.

The account’s handle is @DannyFootball77, and the avatar is that of a Pittsburgh Steelers’ hat. If you scroll through the account’s “replies”, you’ll find plenty of messages defending the Steelers’ third-year offensive coordinator.

Not only do fans believe that Canada is secretly running the @DannyFootball77 account, but X user @PPP_Benjamin came up with an interesting theory: Canada may actually be using his Steelers’ work email to run the burner account.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Steelers launch an internal investigation themselves to see if Canada is really operating a burner account to defend himself.

Canada is in his third year as the Steelers’ OC, replacing Randy Fichtner after the latter was let go in 2021. The offense ranked 21st and 26th in scoring offense in the 2021 and 2022 seasons under Canada, respectively.

The unit has been inconsistent again through four weeks averaging just 15.5 points per game (25th in the league). So it’s easy to understand why so many Steelers fans would like to see a change at OC, but head coach Mike Tomlin has been surprisingly patient with Canada in what’s supposed to be a results-driven business.

Pittsburgh will try to get back on a winning tack when they host the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday.
