Good morning, Pickswise Nation, and welcome to another tremendous Tuesday of sports. We have a full MLB slate to enjoy today and plenty to chew over after last night’s NFL action, so let’s get straight to making your next bet better.

About Last Night

Saints and Steelers win, Browns lose Chubb
The overlapping Monday night NFL doubleheader produced plenty of incidents but not much in terms of high-quality football. First, the Saints moved to 2-0 by winning a scrappy contest against the Panthers 20-17, with Carolina scoring a late TD to deny the Saints’ -3 spread backers and force a push. The later game between the Browns and Steelers produced drama from the outset with a Deshaun Watson pick-6 on the first play, and the Steelers scored a second defensive TD late on to win 26-22. The game was overshadowed, however, by a season-ending knee injury sustained by Browns running back Nick Chubb.

The Saints are +2800 odds for the Super Bowl at FanDuel after moving level with the Buccaneers and Falcons in the NFC South. They are +125 favorites for the division with the Falcons at +150 and the Bucs at +420. The Steelers’ win saw the Ravens’ odds for the AFC North come in to -110, with the Browns out to +360, the 0-2 Bengals at +440 and the Steelers at +500.

Today’s Slate

Full 15-game MLB slate today
After Monday’s smaller baseball slate we have a full set of 15 games to look forward to today. Phillies vs Braves is being shown on TBS at 7:20 pm ET. Read today’s MLB predictions.

Best Bet of the Day

MLB: Over 9 runs in Baltimore Orioles vs Houston Astros (-105)
8:10 pm ET

The Orioles are starting Kyle Gibson tonight while the Astros are rolling with Hunter Brown. Neither pitcher enters in the best form and ven with a scoreless appearance last time out against the A’s, Brown (4.61 ERA, 1.34 WHIP) has posted a 7.29 ERA and 1.52 WHIP over his last 5 starts. Just over a month ago Brown was cracked by the Orioles’ bats for 5 runs in 6 innings. Gibson is coming off an August in which he held a 7.89 ERA and 1.51 WHIP. He’s been better in his last two starts, but this potent Astros lineup ranks in the top 5 over the course of the season and #1 in wRC+ (142) over the last month and has averaged 7.08 runs per game in the last two weeks. Neither bullpen is rested, either. Check out our full Orioles vs Astros predictions.

Stat of the Day

The Braves have now clinched a bye in the playoffs despite losing their last 4 games.

Quote of the Day

“He’s a great football player, as we know, but he’s an even better person. We will support him every step along the way.”

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is facing up to the reality of not having Nick Chubb.
