Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. The Miami Heat have been defeated in the NBA Finals. Twice in four seasons the Heat were able to make it all the way to the Championship, only to come up short. Kudos to them making it there. Personally, I felt they stood a chance against the Lakers in 2020. That was a balanced series. The Nuggets controlled the Finals from tip-off in Game 1.
Miami was overpowered. Jimmy Butler ran out of gas. Then we look at Caleb Martin who averaged over 19 ppg against the Celtics, only to muster 7.4 ppg against the Nuggets. I think the only bright spot for Miami was Bam Adebayo. He may not have stopped Nikola Jokic, but he was a threat offensively and did a decent job on the defensive side of the ball. The Joker was just too much.
So how can Miami continue to be successful and get over the hump? The answer is easy. They need to make a trade for a bonafide superstar. Not someone who is on Jimmy’s level. They need someone that can truly elevate the Heat and be a serious threat. And that’s why I feel a trade for the Mavericks’ Luka Doncic is the only answer. Here’s the blockbuster trade to make that happen:
