New Georgetown basketball coach Ed Cooley didn’t pretend he’s taking over a program at the peak of its powers, but the 53-year-old passionately spoke about a return to glory at his introductory news conference Wednesday, saying, “We’re going to make this G special once again.” Here’s what you need to know:

Cooley joins Georgetown after the program fired former coach Patrick Ewing earlier this month after six seasons.

Cooley spoke about his departure from Providence, which went 242-153 during his tenure, and said to expect members of his Friars staff to join him in D.C.

“To the players we left at Providence College, it was going to take a very, very special place for me to leave home,” Cooley said.
