The Detroit Red Wings and the New Jersey Devils meet in NHL action from the Prudential Center on Saturday night.

The Detroit Red Wings will look to keep the momentum going after starting the year with a 3-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens last time out. Michael Rasmussen led the way for Detroit with a goal and a pair of assists while Elmer Soderblom and Olli Maatta each had a goal as well. Oskar Sundqvist each had a pair of assists while Dylan Larkin and Andrew Copp each had an assist as well in the win. Ville Husso got the shutout and the win in his Red Wings debut after stopping all 29 shots faced in the win.

The New Jersey Devils will look to bounce back after opening the season with a 5-2 loss to Philadelphia last time out. Alexander Holtz and Damon Severson were responsible for the goals for New Jersey in the loss while Jesper Bratt had a pair of assists and Dawson Mercer added an assist as well in defeat. MacKenzie Blackwood ended up with the loss in goal, allowing 4 goals on 24 shots faced in the losing effort.

Detroit is 16-40 in their last 56 games played on no rest and 65-140 in their last 205 games overall while the over is 8-3 in their last 11 games against the Metropolitan division. New Jersey is 18-46 in their last 64 games overall and 21-45 in their last 66 home games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games against the Eastern Conference.

I get the case to be made either way in this one, but I’m looking at the Red Wings here. Now the knock on Detroit is that this team is horrendous on the road going back some time, but it takes one win to start the trend in the other direction and bottom line is I’m not looking to lay this kind of price with a Devils team that frankly doesn’t deserve it. The Red Wings took big steps to making their team better in the offseason and I think it pays dividends here, even on the back-to-back. Give me Detroit.
