Some people say that when men make plans, God laughs. If that’s true, it probably applies doubly to an NBA general manager.

With that in mind, all 30 of the league’s teams have a plan. Some extend a decade, while others are strictly related to the 2022-23 season. With that said, if the right opportunity presents itself, any team would be forced to consider pivoting.

The Chicago Bulls are likely planning for contention in 2022-23. They may not have the league’s best championship odds, but they have enough win-now talent on this roster that it feels like their most likely course of action.

On the other hand, many would suggest that the New York Knicks ought to be planning for the future. With that said, it’s hard to be sure that’s what they’re doing.

After all, they appeared prepared to acquire Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz this summer – before they traded him to the Cleveland Cavaliers, that is.

Could the Knicks settle for a lesser star by offering a smaller deal to the Bulls in exchange for DeMar DeRozan?
