Matthew Stafford was on the field for OTAs and minicamp, but he didn’t do any throwing. That’s because he got an injection in his right elbow this offseason, causing the Rams to play it safe with their quarterback.
The plan was for him to be ready for training camp, and so far, he’s right on track. Stafford was throwing during the first day of camp, getting in some important work with his receivers – particularly Allen Robinson.
Stafford told reporters that he’s “definitely knocking some rust off and feeling it again.” Seeing how his elbow reacts to a throwing session after missing spring workouts.
Sean McVay said Stafford will be on a “pitch count” during training camp, but the elbow didn’t restrict him from doing anything on the first day.
“It’s an interesting thing, trying to have a little bit of governor on there and at the same time, just try and be as smart as I can. It’s a process,” Stafford said, via the LA Times. “Gonna have to sit there, work through it, trust it, and we’ll figure it out as we go.”
Below are a couple of videos from the first day of camp, as Stafford connected with both Van Jefferson and Allen Robinson on two simple throws.
