The Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox meet in MLB action from Fenway Park on Monday night.

The Detroit Tigers will look to build on their series split with Texas after a 7-3 win over the Rangers in Sunday’s series finale. Jonathan Schoop and Jeimer Candelario each have a team-high 5 home runs with Schoop logging 10 doubles and 19 RBIs. Javier Baez has a team-high 11 doubles while Miguel Cabrera has a team-high 60 hits and 22 RBIs. Alex Faedo will get the start for Detroit here and is 1-3 with a 4.28 ERA and 33 strikeouts this season.

The Boston Red Sox will try to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last five games after a 6-4 win over St. Louis last time out to earn a series win. Xander Bogaerts has 82 hits, a .337 batting average and 20 doubles while Rafael Devers has 88 hits with 23 doubles and Enrique Hernandez also has 16 doubles. Alex Verdugo has 4 home runs and 33 RBIs while Devers has a team-high 16 home runs and 42 RBIs and Hernandez also has 24 RBIs. J.D. Martinez also has 23 doubles, a .336 batting average and 28 RBIs this year and Trevor Story has a team-high 45 RBIs as well for Boston. Josh Winckowski will start here and is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA and 7 strikeouts this season.

Detroit is 1-7 in their last 8 games against the AL East and 0-5 in their last 5 games against a right-handed starter while the over is 6-1-1 in their last 8 series-opening games. Boston is 5-0 in their last 5 series-opening games and 9-2 in their last 11 games as a favorite while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall.

I get the case to be made for Boston at home, but I’m not really looking to lay a price like this with a relatively unproven pitcher like Winckowski. Granted, Faedo doesn’t have much of a resume himself, but what we have seen for the most part has been pretty good and the Tigers really seemed to find some solid offense over the weekend. I think there’s some value with Detroit in this one.
