On a surface level, the Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Wizards had very similar 2021-22 NBA seasons.

The Lakers won 33 games. The Wizards exceeded that total by two. Both teams surely hoped for more. At the same time, that’s where the comparisons realistically end.

The Wizards have options. They could forge ahead with a team built around Bradley Beal, making incremental changes this summer.

Alternatively, they could move their star scoring guard for a sizeable package and begin rebuilding.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are relatively stuck. They’ve got an aging core full of players who may be difficult to move. They’re also committed to the present, with a 37-year-old LeBron James still producing at a star level.
