The San Francisco Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies meet Wednesday in MLB action from Citizens Bank Park. This will be the final installment in a three-game series. San Francisco posted two runs in the top of the 10th inning Monday and held on for a nice comeback win 5-4. In the Tuesday game, the Giants bagged three runs in the top of the 11th during a 7-4 victory. Jakob Junis managed 4.1 frames in the start with one earned on three hits and two walks.
For the Wednesday starter job the Giants will send out Carlos Rodon. This year in nine starts Rodon is 4-4 with a 3.60 ERA. Over his 50.0 innings he has 42 hits, 20 earned, 20 walks and 64 Ks.
Over on the Phillies’ side, they managed just five hits (to the Giants’ six) in the Monday loss. On Tuesday the Phillies had nine hits and two errors on the way to the defeat. Starter Ranger Suarez put up 4.1 innings with two earned on five hits and three walks.
Aaron Nola will take the mound for the Phillies on Wednesday in the start. In 10 starts this year Nola is 2-4 with a 3.56 ERA. In his 60.2 innings he has 47 hits, 24 earned, 10 walks and 74 Ks.
The Giants are 27-12 in their last 39 Wednesday games and 38-17 in their last 55 road games. San Francisco is 35-17 in their last 52 in game three of a series.
Meanwhile, the under is 8-3 in Philly’s last 11 at home versus a lefty stater and the over is 5-2 in their last seven versus a lefty starter. The under is 6-1-1 in Philadelphia’s last eight versus the NL West.
PICK: I’m going to try Philadelphia. Nola has been pretty good in two of his last three starts, with the outlier being 5.1 innings, four earned and five hits versus the Dodgers. In his other pair Nola has 15.1 innings with three earned on nine hits and two walks. As for Rodon, he’s given up 13 earned in his last 15.0 innings over three starts—and each was a loss. I don’t think Rodon will do too badly here but I’m probably still leaning Philly.
