The San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants meet Friday in MLB action at Oracle Park. The San Diego Padres look for a win after winning five of their last eight games. The San Francisco Giants look for a win after splitting their last six games.

The San Diego Padres have scored five runs in their last three games and three or fewer runs in five of their last 10 games. The Padres have won five of their last eight games when scoring three or fewer runs. Manny Machado leads the Padres with 50 hits and 23 RBI while Eric Hosmer and Jake Cronenworth have combined for 74 hits and 39 RBI. Sean Manaea gets the ball, and he is 2-3 with a 3.77 ERA and 50 strikeouts this season. Manaea is 2-3 with a 2.72 ERA and 32 strikeouts in his career against the Giants.

The San Francisco Giants have scored 20 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in six of their last eight games. The Giants have won 11 of their last 14 games when scoring four or more runs. Thairo Estrada leads the Giants with 36 hits and 20 RBI while Wilmer Flores and Darin Ruf have combined for 60 hits and 33 RBI. Jakob Junis gets the ball, and he is 1-1 with a 1.74 ERA and 18 strikeouts this season. This will be Junis’ second career game against the Padres.

The Padres are 10-4 in their last 14 road games and 19-9 in their last 28 overall. The Giants are 5-0 in their last 5 home games and 8-3 in their last 11 overall. The over is 5-2 in Padres last 7 overall. The over is 7-2 in Giants last 9 overall. The over is 13-5 in the last 18 meetings.

You can make a case for either side here and that’s why I lean toward the under. Sean Manaea has allowed 34 hits and 18 earned runs through 43 innings and is getting stronger with more reps. Jakob Junis has allowed 16 hits and four runs through 20.2 innings, and he’s pitched his best at home. Two solid pitchers and two offenses that seem to be hit or miss. I’ll lean toward the under in this early statement series.
