We can get straight to the chase and discuss how neither Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson have a great chance to win the 2022 PGA Championship. Largely due to the fact that only one of them is playing in the event, it is unlikely to see either one holding the Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday.

Phil Mickelson is the defending PGA Champion after his storybook win last year at Kiawah Islands. This year, we will not see Mickelson defend his title after he took his name out of the tournament on Friday. Mickelson became the oldest player to win a PGA Championship last year in South Carolina.

All signs are pointing towards the second event of the season for Tiger Woods. We have not seen Woods play since The Masters early in April but his comeback from the horrific car accident continues to be amazing on so many levels. Woods made the cut at The Masters earlier this spring. Let’s have a look at their PGA Championship Betting Odds.

Will Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson Win the 2022 PGA Championship Tournament?

Phil Mickelson: Withdrawn

On Friday, it was announced that Phil Mickelson had withdrawn from the 2022 PGA Championship. Southern Hills Country Club in Oklahoma is the site of this year’s event. There is no reason currently for Mickelson withdrawing, which allows the media and fans to take this wherever they please.

It has been arguably the toughest season of his career for Mickelson. He has not played in a PGA Tour sanctioned event since the Farmers Insurance Open in January. Mickelson is in a bit of heat after comments he has made about the LIV Golf league.

The question continues as to when we will see Mickelson in his next PGA Tour event. This was expected to be the one exception, due to him defending his title. We will not see that this year and will crown a new champion.

The next event that it is likely to see Mickelson play in, is the U.S. Open. This is the next major and the last major Mickelson needs to complete the career grand slam. WIll we see Mickelson make a return to the PGA Tour?

Tiger Woods: +6500 odds

The other wiley veteran is set to make his second appearance this season on the PGA Tour schedule. Tiger Woods returns to Southern Hills Country Club for the 2022 PGA Championship. Woods still has time to withdraw from the event in case he is not ready to play but all signs are pointing towards Woods playing.

In the lone tournament this season, Woods finished in 47th place at The Masters in April. Due to his car accident, Woods has spent a lot of time rehabbing and preparing to play golf at a very high level again. He did shoot +13 for the week at Augusta National.

It is very unlikely that we will see Woods win the PGA Championship and his fifth career PGA Championship.

Woods has not won a PGA Championship since 2007 and that was when he went back-to-back after winning in 2006. The site of the 2007 PGA Championship was none other than Southern Hills Country Club. Can Woods draw up some old memories and wow the crowd again this week in Oklahoma?
