The San Diego Padres and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet in MLB action from PNC Park on Sunday afternoon.
The San Diego Padres will look to pick up a win to close out the set and keep their momentum going into their interleague set with Cleveland on Tuesday. Manny Machado has a team-high 31 hits with 7 doubles, 3 home runs and 13 RBIs while Jurickson Profar has a team-high 5 home runs and 15 RBIs. Eric Hosmer also has 27 hits with a .397 batting average and 6 doubles as well this season. Joe Musgrove will start here and is 3-0 with a 2.16 ERA and 25 strikeouts this season.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will also be looking for a rare win to head into their interleague set against Detroit with a win in this one. Ke’Bryan Hayes has a team-high 21 hits and 6 doubles with a team-high .323 batting average as well while Daniel Vogelbach has a team-high 3 home runs and 8 RBIs. Michael Chavis and Kevin Newman also each have a team-high 8 RBIs while Ben Gamel and Yoshi Tsutsugo each have 7 RBIs as well this season. Mitch Keller will get the start here and is 0-3 with a 6.62 ERA and 16 strikeouts this season.
San Diego is 2-5 in their last 7 Sunday games and 8-19 in their last 27 game three matchups while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall. Pittsburgh is 5-16 in their last 21 games against the NL West and 10-41 in their last 51 game three matchups while the over is 3-0-1 in their last 4 home games.
I get the case to be made for a home underdog in certain spots and the Pirates battled back fairly well in Saturday’s matchup. However, Mitch Keller has been really subpar and truth be told I have no idea what he’s really doing still in Pittsburgh’s rotation as the guy gets hits hard more often than not when he’s on the mound. Joe Musgrove’s arguably the ace in San Diego’s rotation in my opinion and I think we have a bit of value with the Padres on the run line here as the Pirates get stifled by Musgrove here.
