Nebraska won big Saturday in the transfer portal, adding a commitment from former TCU defensive end Ochaun Mathis.

Mathis, 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds, picked the Huskers over Texas. He announced his decision in a live stream on social media.

The Athletic ranked Mathis for the past two months as the top available transfer nationally. Originally from Manor, Texas, Mathis twice earned second-team All-Big 12 recognition at TCU. His 0.9 sacks per game in 2020 led the league. Mathis recorded 15 1/2 sacks, 30 1/2 tackles for loss and 134 total tackles in four seasons. He has two years of remaining collegiate eligibility.

Mathis visited Lincoln for the April 9 Red-White game and stands to receive significant earnings through the efforts of Nebraska’s name, image and likeness organization.

The Huskers continue to seek reinforcements on the defensive line and prioritized the addition of an elite pass rusher this offseason after graduation and early departures hit the program hard at the position group.
