The St. Louis Cardinals meet the Milwaukee Brewers in an NL Central division matchup in MLB action from American Family Field on Thursday.

The St. Louis Cardinals come into this one rested after Wednesday’s finale against Kansas City was postponed. The Cards’ last action came in a 6-5 win over the Royals on Tuesday. All of St. Louis’ damage on the scoreboard came via the longball, as Andrew Knizner had a three-run home run while Nolan Arenado had a two-run homer. Albert Pujols had three hits with a solo home run to cap off the scoring for the Cards in the win. Tommy Edman went 2 for 4 with a double while Paul DeJong had a double of his own. Dylan Carlson and Tyler O’Neill each had a base hit as well to finish off the offense for the Cards in the win. Dakota Hudson allowed three runs on five hits while striking out four over four innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Jordan Hicks got the win in relief while Geovanny Gallegos closed the 9th for the save. Adam Wainwright will start here and is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 6 strikeouts this season.

The Milwaukee Brewers will be looking to build on their 4-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles in their last game. Rowdy Tellez had two hits in going 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles while Kolten Wong had a pinch-hit triple with an RBI and Mike Brosseau added an RBI of his own to cap off the scoring for the Brew Crew in the win. Victor Caratini, Keston Hiura and Hunter Renfroe each had base hits to round out the offense for the Brewers in the victory. Corbin Burnes threw seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out eight, not factoring in the decision. Brad Boxberger got the win in relief while Josh Hader closed the 9th for his 3rd save. Brandon Woodruff will start here and is 0-1 with a 17.18 ERA and 2 strikeouts this season.

I get the case to be made either way here, but I’m leaning towards the Cardinals here. I didn’t like what I saw from the Brewers in their opener and while Milwaukee should be able to right the ship eventually, I’m not betting on eventually, I’m betting on the here and now and the reality here is that Adam Wainwright is pitching well early on and has picked up where he left off last season. Give me the Cards.
