Updated FIFA World Cup Odds and Analysis | April 11th Edition

What is the World Cup Format?

The 2022 FIFA World Cup consists of 32 teams, broken down into eight groups of four. Except for the host Qatar, the other 31 teams qualified through two years of games in their own confederation. The spots were allocated by FIFA, with Europe getting the most qualifiers with 13.

Three teams are still to be decided, with playoffs coming up in June. One of those was delayed with Ukraine unable to play after being invaded by Russia.

That spot will either be taken by Ukraine, Wales, or Scotland, while Costa Rica faces New Zealand for a group stage spot, and Peru will face either Australia or UAE for the final spot.

Each of the eight groups includes four teams playing one game against the other three teams. The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout round of 16 teams. Those teams will compete in a bracketed tournament, ending with the World Cup Final at Lusail Stadium on December 18.

World Cup Odds

Bettors will have plenty of options during the World Cup, with MyBookie provided odds for each game and each group, plus overall winner odds. With the paths to the knockout round now revealed, odds have been released for the winners.

Brazil are Favorites

It is no surprise that the team who has lifted the World Cup the most are the favorite at +450. The Brazilians have five titles but none since 2002, losing in the quarterfinals at three of the last four World Cups.

Loaded with talent again this year, Brazil cruised through qualifying in CONMEBOL, and stars like Neymar, Vinicius Junior, Fabinho, and Alisson hitting their primes.

Brazil is -225 to win Group G, with their stiffest competition likely coming from Switzerland (+450). The group also includes Serbia (+550) and Cameroon (+1200).

The Next Wave of Favorites

Three European teams are bunched together behind Brazil, including two recent winners. France, the defending champions, are +550 to repeat, the same odds as England. Spain, who won in 2010, are +800 while Argentina is +900 to round out the top five.

France are in Group D, where they will face Denmark, Tunisia, and the winner of the Peru/Australia/UAE playoff. Spain will have a challenge to win their group as they were drawn into Group E with Germany, who are +1100 to win it all as the 2014 champions. Those teams will also face Japan and the winner of Costa Rica/New Zealand.

England are in Group B with the United States, Iran, and the winner of Wales/Scotland/Ukraine. Because the final team isn’t known yet, there are no group odds for Groups B, D, and E. The United States are +10000 to win their first World Cup.

Argentina and superstar Lionel Messi are in Group C with Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Poland. This is likely Messi’s last chance to lift the World Cup trophy, and Argentina is -250 to win the group with Poland +450 and Mexico +500. The Mexican team is +15000 to win it all.

Other Teams to Watch

Two other teams to keep an eye on from outside the top five are Belgium and Portugal. Both are star-studded with Kevin de Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, and Eden Hazzard suiting up for Belgium, semifinalists in 2018.

Meanwhile, Portugal have Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, and Joao Felix as they look to add a first World Cup trophy to their Euro 2016 triumph.

Belgium and Portugal are both +1200 to win in Qatar, the same odds as Netherlands. Belgium is favored (-190) to win Group F with 2018 runners-up Croatia (+275), Morocco (+600), and Canada (+900). Portugal (-155) is favored to win Group H with Uruguay (+200), Ghana (+1000), and South Korea (+1100). Netherlands are favored (-250) to win Group A with Senegal (+450), Ecuador (+600), and host Qatar (+1400).
